Cup of Collagraph, 2023

The second print in my Intro to Printmaking Studio introduced us to a “collagraph.” A collagraph is a printmaking technique that involves gluing materials to a rigid surface to create a plate that can be used to imprint a design onto paper or another medium. The word comes from the Greek words koll or kola, meaning glue, and the word graph, meaning drawing. I continued to create imagery surroundig my work experience outside the classroom as a barista. SOmething I am passionate about and consider itself an art in its own right. Starting peoples days with the drink they want, made just right is something special and I take pride in it. For the collagraph plate I used a wood board backing, artboard for releif cutouts, and coffee grounds layered on top to create stipple like texture effects on the final prints. Before printing, you must soak your paper and for this series I stuck with me themes of coffee and taped off the borders of my paper sheets I was going to be printing on and then soaked them in. coffee. This gave me printing surface a nice textured surface once it dried, along with a unique one of a colored background on the main composition space.
